Swets has appointed a new CEO, Arie Jongejan, the former head of Elsevier's Science & Technology division. Jongejan will replace interim CEO, Paul de Bruin, the chairman of Swets' Supervisory Board, and will head an executive board that was restructured last September to shorten reporting lines and strengthen management representation.
Jongejan has tremendous cachet in the industry, having overseen the development of two cornerstones of the STM publishing business - ScienceDirect and Scopus - in his 24-year career at Elsevier. He has been a member of Elsevier's main board since 1998, and a key part of its strategic thinking up till his departure from the company just before Christmas.
Swets can now look forward to tapping into Jongejan's wide-ranging experience and insight. Paul de Bruin said: "His extensive expertise in e-business models and his ability to manage complex international organisations and provide focus, transparency and team spirit should prove invaluable to Swets and our customers."
