Apr. 7--NEW HAVEN -- An 800-pound gorilla entered the Internet telephony arena today, ratcheting up the level of competition in the fledgling industry.
America Online Inc. started offering AOL Internet Phone service in 40 markets nationwide, including New Haven and Hartford.
AOL is touting its Voiceover Internet Protocol (VoIP) service as less expensive and easier to use than those being promised by telephone and cable TV companies.
