U.S. Passports To Be Mandatory
1Americans will need passports to re-enter the U.S. from Canada, Mexico, Panama and Bermuda by '08 as part of a tightening of U.S. border controls. Sec'y of State Condoleezza Rice said the change is needed to screen out "people who want to come in to hurt us." Some companies and the travel industry worry the changes could hurt business. Oil Falls On Greenspan Speech
2May crude fell 87 cents to $56.04 a barrel. Fed chief Alan Greenspan said high oil prices are straining energy markets, but expects market forces to spur conservation and production. He said prices are "modestly" curbing oil demand growth. Analysts expect Wed. reports to again show higher U.S. crude oil stockpiles but lower gasoline and distillate supplies. More on this page
Market Edges Up On Mixed Trade
3 The Nasdaq rose 0.4% as volume grew. It's still 9% off its 52-week high. Medical, retail and leisure shares led the upside. A few more stocks broke out.
