If you speak French to someone who speaks only Italian, you won't communicate--no matter how long and loud you talk. You need to learn Italian, she needs to learn French or you need to create a common language before she'll hear you.
Communication is not the same as information, corporate trainer Mary Ann Salerno said at her presentation at the Fall Forum for the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) in October 2004 in New York City. At her workshop "Did You Hear What I Meant?" she said, "You can give out information in an empty room." Communication is getting information across to someone else.
