Universities are finding ways to funnel more money to their athletics programs in the face of rising costs. But they are taking funds from other parts of the school, according to the 2003 edition of Revenues and Expenses of Divisions I and II Intercollegiate Athletics Programs by the NCAA.
The study shows that revenue increased more than expenses in Divisions I and II--due to a 20% increase in direct institutional support and a 22% increase in ticket prices--and programs may have hit the upper limits of student activity fees and ticket prices.
