Apr. 6--The country's steel industry could collapse if the government accedes to Japan's demands to liberalise the trade of hot-rolled steel under the proposed Thai-Japan free trade agreement, members of the Steel Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries warned yesterday.

Pibulsak Atthabawarapisan, the club chairman, said allowing unfettered imports of steel would jeopardise Thai steel mills, and threaten a number of supporting industries.
