Like cell phone bills and gasoline purchases, air travel is now a favorite target for government "fees." President Bush recently proposed doubling aviation security taxes--which would add $1.5 billion to the cost of U.S. airline tickets.
At the most recent Davos Forum (where "economic leaders" and those in search of subsidized skiing vacations come together), French president Jacques Chirac proposed the world's first international tax (a $10 billion levy to raise money "for the fight against AIDS"), which would include a global levy on all airplane tickets.
