The battle for the hearts and minds of graphic designers and publishers entered a new phase Monday with the unveiling of Adobe Systems' Creative Suite 2.
With the second edition of Adobe's popular Creative Suite, executives hope to take more market share from once-dominant Quark in the desktop publishing arena.
Adobe officials say their suite of software for page layout, photo editing, managing work flows and other tasks exceeds anything privately held Quark could offer.
Creative Suite 2 integrates new versions of Adobe products InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, GoLive and Acrobat.
Adobe "lapped" Quark in early 2002 with its InDesign 2.0 page-design product and hasn't looked back, says Shantanu Narayen, Adobe's president and chief operating officer.
"We've been pushing the envelope," Narayen said. "We're not looking in the rear-view mirror to see what Quark's doing. We're focused on continuing to drive innovation in conjunction with our customers and partners."
