Apr. 5--While government officials express cautious optimism that Sunday's bombings in Hat Yai and Songkhla will have only a slight impact on tourism and economic growth, business leaders fear tourism growth and revenue targets will be missed.
"The bombings will affect confidence and the investment climate in the short term. But the negative sentiment will fade when the situation returns to normal," Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said yesterday.
He said that agencies dealing with tourism by now were well-versed in dealing with problems and as a result, the government would not revise its 2005 tourism revenue target of 500-600 billion baht.
