Apr. 4--The National Geographic Society sees vast potential in the fast-growing Asian market for more local-language issues of its flagship magazine and related products.

Asia offers a big business opportunity due largely to rising purchasing power in line with the region's growing economies, according to executives of the 116-year-old non-profit organisation headquartered in Washington DC.

Most importantly, Asian parents were making a big effort to encourage their children to read more for a better education, said Robert Hernandez, the company's senior vice-president for international licensing and alliances.
