Adobe Systems used to be known for making stand-alone software for tasks like editing photos or sharing documents.
Now it's all about making complete software suites for managing work flow.
Its evolution from desktop software products such as Photoshop and Acrobat into platforms for managing information and creative projects has paid off in a big way for Adobe.
On Monday, Adobe will take another step forward in its platform strategy with the debut of Creative Suite 2. Analysts expect the company to announce this second version of its popular suite of software for graphic designers at an event in New York for advertising and publishing professionals.
Adobe released the first version of Creative Suite in the fall of 2003. It integrates Adobe's Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive and Acrobat products.
"The move to platforms that we've been talking about for a while now is really moving," said Shantanu Narayen, Adobe's president. "And it's gratifying to see customers adopt the higher-value work flow that we've been delivering."
