Ten years after it was born out of BBH's media department, the agency has dropped the Motive name.

1995: Having held out as one of the last full-service agencies of any size in London, Bartle Bogle Hegarty bows to the inevitable and spins off its media department as a media specialist, Motive. Its media director, Mark Cranmer, becomes the managing director and senior members of his team include Iain Jacob, Andy Roberts, Kevin Brown and Pete Edwards.

2000: The Leo Burnett holding company Bcom3 acquires a stake in the BBH Group and Burnett's UK media shops merge with Motive to create Starcom Motive. Cranmer (pictured) becomes the Starcom chief executive, EMEA, and Jacob, Starcom Motive's managing director.

2002: Publicis acquires Bcom3. The enlarged group now boasts four media brands in the UK: Optimedia, Zenith Media, Starcom Motive and MediaVest. Zenith and Optimedia are eventually merged but Starcom Motive and MediaVest retain separate identities in the UK - though by now they have been merged in most other markets.
