Apr. 1--Ericsson of Sweden is pushing ahead with mobile broadband services on the W-CDMA platform, which it believes will see substantial growth this year.
W-CDMA, which is short for Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access, is a third generation (3G) mobile wireless technology that increases data transmission rates over GSM systems by using the CDMA air interface instead of TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access). For that reason, it offers much higher data speeds for mobile and portable wireless devices than commonly offered in today's market.
