As the president of Borders Books & Music stores worldwide, I read with disappointment Jay Nordlinger's piece "Little Suppressors" (Sept. 27) and would like to take this opportunity to respond.
First, let me apologize to any customer of a Borders store who feels they have been improperly treated by any member of our staff. The vast majority of Borders employees are helpful, knowledgeable people who are passionate about great customer service. Our stores are recognized worldwide for offering a deep and diverse title base representing a wide range of thought, and our employees do their best to meet the needs of every customer they serve.
Borders is absolutely apolitical. We take no stance whatsoever and for more than 30 years have remained committed to our customers' right to choose what to read and what to buy.
