* Remember lustration? That was the process designed by the Czech authorities after the Velvet Revolution to remove their former Communist persecutors from public life, and if possible bring them to court to account for their crimes. The file against Karel Hoffmann is thick. On the eve of the Soviet invasion of his country in August 1968, he was the official who ordered Czechoslovak radio and television to stop broadcasting, which of course crippled resistance.
