President Bush has proposed amending this to permit "flextime"--i.e., extra time off instead of extra pay, which would be based on a pay period of 80 hours over two weeks. So, a person might work more than 40 hours one week and less than 40 the next, and receive the same pay for both weeks. This is sound policy, especially when two-earner families and single mothers are struggling to balance the demands of work and home. ...
