* Proponents of expanded federal funding for research on human embryos are waging a slick p.r. campaign to change President Bush's policy. Many of the people involved in the campaign--parents of children with juvenile diabetes, for example, and Nancy Reagan--deserve our sympathy. But the campaign too often traffics in falsehoods. The more-funding lobby often claims that Bush promised funding for 78 embryonic stem-cell lines but has made only 19 available to researchers. A letter to Bush from 206 members of the House and 58 senators echoes this claim. But Bush said that these lines would be eligible for funding, not that they would be immediately available.
