Even supporters of the abortion license found it a melancholy anniversary. Writers and activists in that camp increasingly talk about life after Roe. Some even say that the cause of abortion rights would be better off without Roe. The theory, which is close to conventional wisdom among the pundits, is that if legislatures regained control of abortion policy, the pro-life demand for a ban on abortion would be discredited as unpopular.
