* Finally, the mainstream press has taken some substantive interest in Mackubin Thomas Owens's NR cover story about John Kerry's 1971 congressional testimony. Kerry alleged widespread American war crimes such as rape and beheading, committed with the awareness of the chain of command. This was an outrageous smear. In a recent front-page piece, the New York Times actually admits as much. The paper quotes historian Douglas Brinkley, author of a sympathetic book on Kerry's wartime experiences, saying the testimony was "the low moment" of Kerry's anti-war activity in Washington, D.C., that week.
