* For some time now, we have been keeping an eye on Jian-li Yang, who visited our offices in the summer of 2001. Since the spring of 2002, he has been a political prisoner in China. Jian-li is, indeed, one of the most famous democrats in the world. Ascholar, he holds two Ph.D.'s: one from Berkeley (mathematics) and one from Harvard (political economy). While at Berkeley, he rushed back to China to participate in the Tiananmen Square demonstrations, at tremendous personal risk (obviously). He quickly rose to the top of the Chinese government's blacklist. He went on to establish the Foundation for China in the 21st Century outside Boston.
