When The European Library (TEL) goes live, its forerunner Gabriel will be taken offline, with much of its content incorporated into the new site. Jill Cousins, head of The European Library Office, explains why Gabriel is being replaced: "Gabriel started as a need for libraries to represent themselves online under the CENL (Conference of European National Librarians) banner and via the EL project we went one step further so that you can actually access information via the site."
