Fears that a new British-Swedish directory of open access repositories would add nothing to the open access (OA) cause have been allayed, writes Tracey Caldwell.
OA guru Stevan Harnad originally questioned the value of the DOAR (www.doar.org), a co-operative effort of the Sherpa team at the University of Nottingham and the University of Lund, Sweden, commenting that perhaps it was "reinventing the wheel".
Bill Hubbard, Sherpa project manager, has since clarified that the DOAR will enhance existing archives registers, and Harnad has been reassured with the direction it is taking.
