This plug-in is designed to reduce noise and grain in digital images, with minimal loss of detail, whether from digital camera files, scanned film or other artwork. I suggest experimenting with different settings, and be sure not to reduce noise too much--that can leave images looking unrealistic. Below is a step-by-step technique to help use the plug-in.

Step 1 After installing, open an RGB file (eight- or 16-bit). Ideally, it will be flattened. The photo above was shot with a digital SLR, handheld at 800 ASA in High JPG mode. The file was then sharpened, and placed in Fig. 1 above (enlarged to show detail). …
