Located near the London's British Museum, two minutes' walk from Tottenham Court Road and Holborn tube stations, Silverback Records distances itself both physically and musically from the majority of London's specialist dance shops, the bulk of which are in Soho.
Operating from the same premises since it first opened its doors in 2002, Silverback occupies a trading area of approximately 600 sq ft and specialises in 12-inch house, breaks, techno, drum & bass, hip-hop and hard house singles.
"We're not really in competition with anyone else," says Ben Addison, who manages the store. "We don't carry much on major labels, because people can buy them for less at HMV, and we don't try to match Black Market's drum & bass range. But we are one of the few London shops to specialise in breaks.
"It's an area that is constantly diversifying and people get into it from other forms of music. Funky breaks and electro breaks are massive ...
