Retirement: President Bush needs to sharpen his rhetoric in the debate on Social Security. Obstructionists on Capitol Hill and K Street are winning the war of words.

In a desperate attempt to protect the last great vestige of the welfare state, critics have concocted a number of myths to frustrate the president's efforts to privatize the ailing New Deal program. And polls show Americans are buying into them, even though they are demonstrably false.
