ICI's National Starch and Chemicals says it has opened a $20-million starch plant at Shanghai that will serve Asian markets. The company has also renamed its food products division National Starch Food Innovation (NSFI), and opened a "process innovation center" at its Bridgewater, N.J. headquarters.
The new starch plant produces specialty food starch ingredients including corn, tapioca, potatoes, and rice, as well as pharmaceutical-grade starches, and industrial starches for papermaking. The company says it also built a technical center at the site to support regional customers.
