Mar. 7--LANCASTER -- Desert View and Joshua schools in the Lancaster School District will drop their year-round calendars and return to a more traditional schedule next school year.

The district wants to drop the multitrack year-round schedule at its schools because of difficulties in scheduling planning sessions for improving academic instruction and staff training.

"We applied for state emergency classrooms (to accommodate the pupils). We get them at a reduced cost," Superintendent Steve Gocke said.

The board at Tuesday's meeting approved moving the two schools to a "single track" schedule in which all pupils start…
