On Monday, January 24, one of a pair of holdup men shot at Bobby Doster, co-owner with his wife Gloria Turner of Shoats Grocery and Package in Crawford, Georgia. And the husband and wife team grabbed handguns and started blazing away at the criminals.
The incident began when a young man wearing a fake wig and another man wearing a mask announced a holdup, and then grabbed Gloria and pushed her toward the register. One criminal kept a gun pointed at Bobby and told Gloria to open the register.
Gloria indicated in an interview for the January 26 Atlanta Journal-Constitution that she planned to give the money to the thieves so that they would just leave, saying, "I'd have given it to them. Our insurance would have covered it." But Gloria wasn't moving quickly enough to suit the criminals, and so one of the holdup men ...
