According to the Wednesday, January 19 Herald Tribune of Florida, Julian Scott, a 79-year-old Sarasota man, responded to screams from his 82-year-old sister, Henrietta McCormick, and arrived at her bedroom in time to confront a would-be burglar.
The incident began about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18 when McCormick heard someone pound on the front door and try the windows. When an intruder, later identified as George Jackson, began to enter the house through a window, McCormick yelled for her brother, who grabbed a pistol and came running. In the bedroom, Jackson lunged at Scott, and they fought for the gun, causing the pistol to discharge into the ceiling.
