Mar. 3--Thousands of labour union members at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand yesterday called for the removal of union leader Sirichai Maingam after he cancelled a major rally set to protest against the agency's planned privatisation.

Mr Sirichai said before the cancellation that Egat needed internal reform to ensure its leading status in the power generation and transmission industry amid tough competition in the near future.

The cancellation upset thousands of union members who had travelled from Egat operations nationwide to join the rally. They called on Mr Sirichai to step down, saying he was no longer able to lead the ...
