There is a saying in NASCAR: The Nextel Cup schedule may open with the Daytona 500, but the real season doesn't start until the following week. That's when the restrictor plates are removed, the glamour of NASCAR's biggest event fades into the background, and competitors get down to the weekly business of racing.
