Mar. 3--Bowing to the pressure of aggressive one-baht-per-minute campaigns recently launched by smaller rivals, market leader Advanced Info Service (AIS) yesterday announced a new promotion offering airtime discounts of up to 34 percent for prepaid customers.
The price change comes as AIS, with nearly 60 percent of the cellular phone market, seeks to curb churn rates and maintain its huge market base.
Under the promotion, callers using over a certain level of minutes per month would qualify for sharp discounts on additional airtime. Average calls now cost around two baht per minute.
