Mar. 3--TOT Corporation's board yesterday scrapped the 6.49-billion-baht contract awarded to Siemens, and approved an electronic auction for the 565,500-line telephone expansion project, to be held within 45 days.

TOT president Teeravit Charuwat said that the board's decision came in response to a recommendation from cabinet secretary-general Bovornsak Suwanno that the state agency use e-auctions for the procurement of equipment and services, according to the wishes of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

He expected that the e-auction would take place within 45 days, with the starting price set at 6.5 billion baht.
