Mar. 3--The Bank of Thailand yesterday hiked short-term interest rates by 0.25 percentage points to help curb inflation and sustain economic growth.
The move by the Monetary Policy Committee raises the key 14-day repurchase rate to 2.25 percent, and was widely anticipated by analysts in light of soaring oil prices and rising interest rate trends worldwide.
Atchana Waiquamdee, an assistant governor for the central bank's monetary policy group, said the increase in interest rates would help control inflationary pressures that had developed as a result of rising oil prices and steady economic growth.
