The Nasdaq bounced back Tuesday from Monday's losses, advancing 1%. But that was mitigated by lower volume.
Apparel retailers got a boost in anticipation of American Eagle Outfitters' fourth-quarter earnings report slated for this morning. Analysts expect the Pennsylvania-based chain to earn $1.39 per share, an increase of 144%. The stock advanced 1.17 to 55.30 in brisk trade.
Urban Outfitters tagged along with American Eagle. It rose 2.24 to 43.83 in nearly double average volume. The stock has been shaping a base-on-base pattern since mid-November. It's 9% off its high.
Yellow Roadway rebounded a bit from Monday's 6% drop. The stock gained 0.73 to close at 58.48 in more than twice the usual turnover. The trucking firm last week said it would acquire rival USF for about $1.37 billion. The deal is expected to close by the summer.
