U.S. longevity hits record level
Americans can expect to live a record 77.6 years, thanks to a decline in death rates from most major causes, including heart disease and cancer. An American woman's life expectancy is 80.1 years, while an American man's is 74.8. The 5.3-year gap is narrower than the 5.4 years in '02, and 2.4 years below the peak 7.8-year difference in '79.
