Fed's Moskow still seeing slack
Chicago Fed President Michael Moskow said excess labor and production capacity are keeping inflation down. High oil prices haven't raised core prices yet either, though the trend bears watching. He also noted the number of workers losing jobs is still high despite some recent gains in payrolls, calling for policy ideas to aid their transition. He also sees no signs of wage growth. The comments back expectations of a measured rate-hike plan.
U.S. execs confident on economy
The Business Roundtable's quarterly survey of CEO sentiment showed its highest reading in two years. Some 60% of the 118 execs surveyed plan new investments in plants and equipment, up from 50% in Dec. Its outlook index for the next six months rose to 104.4 from 98.9 in Dec. 89% see higher sales in the next 6 months, up from 85% in Dec.
** U.S. chain store sales rose 2% in Feb. vs. Jan., thanks to holiday promotions, Redbook Research said. Year-over-year sales rose 7.6% for the week ended Feb. 26.
