Mar. 2--The government has purchased several properties at tsunami-hit areas along the Andaman coast which will be developed in the future as part of a regional tourism promotional strategy, according to Auggapol Brickshawana, director of policy and planning development of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Among the sites acquired by the Culture Ministry are wrecked buildings, homes and a land plot with a beached patrol vessel in Khao Lak, Phangnga. Details on the acquisition budget have not been announced, although the purchases are part of a state assistance programme to help victims of the Dec 26 tsunami.
