Mar. 2--Higher diesel and premium petrol prices at local pumps pushed February inflation up 2.5 percent year-on-year, said a senior Commerce Ministry official.

Permanent secretary for commerce Karun Kittisataporn said the index of consumer prices that is used to measure inflation rose to 106.0, up from 105.4 the previous month and 103.4 in February of last year.

The government's decision to lift the price cap on diesel by 60 satang per litre, and three recent 40-satang hikes in the price of petrol have been blamed for a 1.7 percent year-on-year increase in non-food inflation, or a 0.3 percent rise over last month.
