Broken optic nerve sees new life

Scientists at Boston's Schepens Eye Research Institute have regrown damaged optic nerves, the key link between the eye and the brain, in mice. The technique could help restore eyesight in people whose optic nerves have been damaged by glaucoma or other injuries, says a study in the Journal of Cell Science. Scientists turned on a gene that promotes the nerve's growth.
