Circuit City severs Amazon ties
The No. 2 U.S. electronics retailer is ending a contract to offer its products and services over Amazon.com because of growth at its own Web site. Also, Circuit City's COO and Vice President John Froman, who was responsible for all store operations, plans to resign. Circuit City, which has struggled to compete with Best Buy and others, is mulling a $3.25 bil takeover offer from a buyout firm. Circuit City fell 0.5% to 15.63. Amazon rose 0.5% to 35.18.
** Best Buy rose 4.5% to 54.02 after JPMorgan analyst Stephen Chick lifted it 2 notches from underweight to overweight, citing the electronics retailer's plans to build smaller stores, and a predicted uptick in digital TV demand.
** Pantry will buy Cowboys convenience store operator D&D Oil Co. for an undisclosed amount. ...
