Recently, the Economist (July 29, 2004) accentuated the need to address a serious worldwide problem: the hunger issue. The reality of hunger is that it not only leads to death and suffering but also impedes international trade, intellectual growth, and a productive work environment. As the magazine states "Those who are ill-fed tend to end up both physically shorter and less mentally agile than otherwise would have been. Hunger also spurs millions of children to drop out of school in order to scavenge for food, and those who manage to attend school despite empty bellies find it excruciatingly hard to concentrate."
