Mar. 1--For the first time ever, consumers in Indiana, Illinois and 10 other Midwestern states can obtain their personal credit report free of charge.
Starting today, the reports are available from a national clearinghouse established by the three credit bureaus under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act.
FACT was passed by Congress in 2003 to make it easier for consumers to check the accuracy of credit reports and prevent identity theft.
