J. Lauritzen and NYK Reefers are forming a new ship-operating and marketing company. The joint venture, in which each company will hold 50 percent, will operate a fleet of 70 to 80 refrigerated vessels.

The companies first began working together in January 2004, after NYK ended its business arrangement with Star Reefers. NYK Reefers later acquired a half-share of LauritzenCool Logistics.

The operating partnership "was the only logical step," said Torben Janholt, president and chief executive of J. Lauritzen.
