Bu calisma, 18. yuzyilin baslarinda Osmanli cografyasinda bulunan Lady Mary Montagu'nun Turkiye hakkinda Avrupali dostlarina yazdigi mektuplari, Turk kadini konusunda icerdigi bilgiler bakimindan degrerlendirmeyi amaclamaktadlr.

Bugun bizler icin bile merak konusu olan donemin kadinlarini Binbirgece masallarinin egzotik ortamindan cikaran bu mektuplar, kadinlarin zorunlu olarak yoneldikleri ozel yasamlarinda olusturduklari zengin ve renkli bir gelenekler sistemine de isaret etmektedir. Turk sosyal hayatinin cesitli unsurlari yaninda 18. yuzyil Osmanli kadininin olusturdugu yasam bicimlerini yine bir kadin gozuyle yansitan bu mektuplar gunumuzde de degerini korumaktadlr.
