Champ Car taps Harcus
Champ Car named Paul Harcus director of operations; he will be responsible for running technical inspection at races, and for rules formulation and pit-lane officiating. Harcus formerly was Kelley Racing's team manager.
Fernandez goes NASCAR
Mexican Adrian Fernandez will make his NASCAR debut with Hendrick Motorsports in a one-off Busch Series drive in the Mexico City race. Hendrick general manager Marshall Carlson said Fernandez visited the race shop to acclimate himself with a stock car. The March 6 race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez marks the first time Busch Series cars will run a road course since 2001 at Watkins Glen.
New hires
Meanwhile, Hendrick hired General Motors racing boss Doug Duchardt as vice president of development, a position in which Duchardt will oversee Hendrick's race car construction, design and engineering. Duchardt joined GM Racing in 1996 and was named director in June 2003.
