Feb. 10--About 35 people gathered at Rama Road Elementary on Wednesday for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' first public forum on student assignment.
During two hours talking about crowding, diversity, stability, magnet schools and other issues, they raised questions being debated across the county:
Should families have more options, or fewer? Should the district redistribute disadvantaged students, or focus on providing a better education at high-poverty schools? Will plans to streamline magnet programs harm successful schools?
