Upset parents said Thursday that they hoped to mount a campaign to derail a consolidation plan that would affect a dozen Kansas City public schools.

Disheartening. Disappointing. Distressing. Those were among the words that parents used to describe their reactions to the proposal unveiled at a school board meeting Wednesday night.

Leaders of school advisory committees said they were getting the word out and hoped to have parental meetings next week. The district plans its own meetings with parents.

Several parents said they would pull their children out of the district rather than send them to a distant campus.
