Jurors were expected to begin deliberating today about whether to find former Albuquerque police Officer Christopher Chase liable in the sexual assault of a woman, but at least one person in the courtroom appeared to have already made up his mind the judge.

"I don't think it's a very close question," Senior U.S. District Judge John Conway said Thursday moments after jurors left the courtroom for the day. "I'll tell you that. I think the plaintiff has pretty much overwhelmingly proved their case."

The plaintiff is a 37-year-old Albuquerque woman who filed a federal lawsuit against Chase accusing him of raping her Feb. 19, 2002, in the back seat of his squad car behind a Bennigan's restaurant.
