Janette Murray is a 41-year-old mother herself, and she takes her responsibility of transporting a bus load of schoolchildren safely to and from school very seriously. So last November, when the Milford, Connecticut, driver felt intense heat under the floorboards of her bus, she reacted instantly. Murray described the experience to the New Haven Register: "The front panel started smoking, and I automatically stopped the bus. I told the children that we needed to leave the bus immediately. When I saw the smoke, there was no way that I was going to wait for anything--we had to get the children off that bus, and fast."
Murray stopped the bus and immediately began evacuating the children, aged 5 through 10. And Joey Bloszko and Tyler Vienneau, a pair of 10-year-olds, who showed coolness under danger well beyond their years, gave valuable support to the evacuation.
